To be eligible for a grant, proposed initiatives must deliver a significant portion of services within the Maplewood and South Orange, New Jersey community.
The Maplewood Foundation offers two types of grants—Program Grants and Seed Grants—to support local organizations at different stages of growth.
The Program Grant
Applicants of the Program Grant should be established nonprofits launching innovative and high-impact programs or building their capacity to continue to provide existing programs.
The Program Grant Eligibility Criteria
The grant applicant must
- propose a program that will deliver a significant portion of services within Maplewood and/or South Orange, NJ.
- be a 501(c)(3) organization or have a fiscal sponsor who is one.
- provide a list of current Board of Trustees and Officers.
- have operated for at least one year.
- have a website.
- provide at least 1 year of financial statements, audited if required.
- submit a grant request for a well-defined program, with itemized costs covering a specific time period, with measurable results.
- plan to use grant funds for program implementation within 2 years of the award.
- at the end of the grant period, provide a narrative report comparing objectives to accomplishments, along with a detailed account of the disbursements
- be willing to publicly acknowledge The Maplewood Foundation's contribution should your organization be awarded a grant
The Seed Grant
Applicants of the Seed Grant must demonstrate that they have the ability to achieve their goals, but lack sufficient capital and/or resources to gain nonprofit status and realize their vision.
The Seed Grant Eligibility Criteria
The grant applicant must
- submit information called for by requirements 1, 7, 8, 9 and 10 under The Program Grant criteria.
- provide a list of Officers of the organization.
- have its own bank account.

Grants are awarded once a year and must be used within a two-year period beginning January 1st of the following year.
