Thinking about applying for a grant?

Learn about eligibility and the application process below.

To be eligible for a grant, proposed initiatives must deliver a significant portion of services within the Maplewood and South Orange, New Jersey community.

The Maplewood Foundation offers two types of grants—Program Grants and Seed Grants—to support local organizations at different stages of growth.

The Program Grant

Applicants of the Program Grant should be established nonprofits launching innovative and high-impact programs or building their capacity to continue to provide existing programs.

The Program Grant Eligibility Criteria

The proposed program must

 

    1. deliver a significant portion of services within Maplewood, NJ.
    2. be a 501(c)(3) organization or have a fiscal sponsor who is one.
    3. provide a list of current Board of Trustees and Officers.
    4. have operated for at least one year.
    5. have a website. 
    6. provide at least 1 year of financial statements, audited if required. 
    7. submit a grant request for a well-defined program, with itemized costs covering a specific time period, with measurable results.
    8. plan to use grant funds for program implementation within 2 years of the award.
    9. at the end of the grant period, provide a narrative report comparing objectives to accomplishments, along with a detailed account of the disbursements at the end of the grant period.

The Seed Grant

Applicants of the Seed Grant must demonstrate that they have the ability to achieve their goals, but lack sufficient capital and/or resources to gain nonprofit status and realize their vision.

The Seed Grant Eligibility Criteria

The proposed program must

 

    1. submit information called for by requirements 1, 7, 8 and 9 under The Program Grant criteria.
    2. provide a list of Officers of the organization.
    3. state how long the organization has been in existence.
    4. have its own bank account.
